Ms. Padierna-Peralta has particular strength in advising clients in connection with a broad spectrum of U.S.-Mexico customs matters, including issues arising under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and cross-border customs procedures. Her experience includes counseling companies regarding other countries’ international trade laws and import requirements. She also monitors closely U.S.-Cuba regulatory developments and has advised on related U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) licensing matters.
Ms. Padierna-Peralta has served as an attorney-advisor in the Office of International Trade at U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Before her position at CBP, she served as an advisor and the first official liaison for the Mexican Senate on NAFTA at the Mexican Embassy in Washington. She has held positions at three prominent law firms in Washington, D.C. She is also a former President of the Customs Lawyers Association.
Ms. Padierna-Peralta received a B.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University, magna cum laude (1987), a M.S. in Politics of the World Economy from The London School of Economics and Political Science (1989), and a Juris Doctor from American University’s Washington College of Law, cum laude (1999). She is a member of the District of Columbia Bar and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Court of International Trade and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. She is a native Spanish speaker and fluent in English, French and Portuguese.
